The Principal Water Engineer serves as the senior technical leader within the Engineering Department, overseeing complex water infrastructure planning, design, construction, and maintenance for production, transmission, distribution, pumping, storage, and treatment facilities. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role leads engineering staff, mentors junior professionals, establishes standards and procedures, and serves as the department head in the Engineering Manager’s absence. The position is responsible for major capital improvement projects, hydraulic modeling, utility relocations, plan review, construction management, contract administration, grant acquisition, and development of the District’s Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan and budget. Acting as the District’s in-house subject matter expert, the Principal Water Engineer plays a key role in guiding the District through significant regional infrastructure expansion and water supply reliability initiatives. The position collaborates closely with operations, finance, and the executive leadership to ensure projects are delivered efficiently. This position also manages regulatory compliance, including environmental compliance, interagency coordination, and developer-led improvements.
